Former Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah will be part of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Occasion on February 22, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned after visiting his residence in Guwahati on Tuesday (February 17, 2026).

The Chief Minister additionally mentioned the BJP would give respect and dignity to Mr. Borah, who was the “final recognised Hindu chief in Congress”. He added that becoming a member of the BJP can be a homecoming for Mr. Borah, as he can be within the firm of a lot of his former colleagues.
